2D Quantum Gravity in the Proper-Time Gauge

چکیده

A two-loop (cylinder) amplitude of the 2d pure gravity theory is obtained in the proper-time gauge (g00 = 1, g01 = g10 = 0) in the continuum formulation. The constraint T01 = 0 is solved and used to reduce the problem of field theory to that of quantum mechanics. This reduction can also be proved by using a conformal Ward identity. The amplitude depends on the lengths l1, l2 of the boundaries, the proper time T and a non-negative integer m associated with winding modes around the boundaries. ∗[email protected]

Non-perturbative Lorentzian Quantum Gravity, Causality and Topology Change

We formulate a non-perturbative lattice model of two-dimensional Lorentzian quantum gravity by performing the path integral over geometries with a causal structure. The model can be solved exactly at the discretized level. Its continuum limit coincides with the theory obtained by quantizing 2d continuum gravity in proper-time gauge, but it disagrees with 2d gravity defined via matrix models or ...

Strings and Membranes from Einstein Gravity, Matrix Models and W∞ Gauge Theories as paths to Quantum Gravity

It is shown how w∞, w1+∞ Gauge Field Theory actions in 2D emerge directly from 4D Gravity. Strings and Membranes actions in 2D and 3D originate as well from 4D Einstein Gravity after recurring to the nonlinear connection formalism of Lagrange-Finsler and Hamilton-Cartan spaces. Quantum Gravity in 3D can be described by a W∞ Matrix Model in D = 1 that can be solved exactly via the Collective Fie...

Spontaneous compactification in 2D induced quantum gravity

Spontaneous compactification —on a R × S background— in 2D induced quantum gravity (considered as a toy model for more fundamental quantum gravity) is analyzed in the gauge-independent effective action formalism. It is shown that such compactification is stable, in contradistinction to multidimensional quantum gravity on a R×S (D > 2) background —which is known to be one-loop unstable. On leave...

Hamiltonian Approach to 2d Supergravity

We study 2D supergravity in a covariant and gauge independent way. The theory is obtained from 2D bosonic gravity following the square root method and the diffeomorphism superalgebra is explicitly computed. We argue that our approach could be a procedure for introducing nontrivial physics in quantum 2D (super)gravity. IPNO/TH 92/79 CFUAP-92-10 October 1992 1 Unité de Recherche des Universités P...

Gauge connection between the WZNW system and 2D induced gravity

We introduce a consistent gauge extension of the SL(2, R) WZNW system, defined by a difference of two simple WZNW actions. By integrating out some dynamical variables in the functional integral, we show that the resulting effective theory coincides with the induced gravity in 2D. General solutions of both theories are found and related to each other. 1 Gauge extension of the WZNW system Dynamic...
